Matt Damon's Water.org to Help Bring Water to World
Green star and all around Hollywood good guy Matt Damon is known for his charitable ways. As one of the founders of Not On Our Watch (along with pals George Clooney and Brad Pitt), Matt and co. put their star power behind humanitarian assistance for the vulnerable, marginalized and displaced. He's also a board member of Tonic (formerly GreenDimes.com), a group that works to stop junk mail and save trees.
Most recently, Mr. Damon has helped to merge his charity H20 Africa with WaterPartners, another water-centric charity, into one larger not-for-profit group called Water.org. The mission? Bring safe water and sanitation to developing countries.
A long-time advocate for safe water issues, Matt explains the importance of
launching Water.org, "Every 15 seconds, a child in the developing world
dies from water-related disease. After visiting project sites in Africa
and Asia with Gary, I've seen the problem and the impact of safe
water."
Damon said, "As a clear leader in the sector at delivering innovative and sustainable solutions for those in need, WaterPartners was the natural choice with whom to work to truly affect lasting change."
Water.org will leverage grassroots awareness-building and innovation in the world's resources sector to help the nearly 890 million people worldwide without safe water, and the 2.5 billion people living without safe sanitation.
