Alaska Blob: What the Hell is It?
Alaska blob sightings abound! It seems there is a large unidentified black blob slowly working its way down the Arctic Ocean's Chukchi Sea north of the Bering Strait.
According reports from the Anchorage Daily news, Coast Guard representative Terry Hasenaur said of the blob, "It's definitely not an oil product of any kind. It has no characteristics of an oil, or a hazardous substance, for that matter." But he says, "It's certainly biological."
While the unidentified black substance does not appear to be oil, the Coast Guard reports that jellyfish and seabirds are getting stuck in the gooey mess, which, in addition to being gross and sticky, also appears to have "hairy strands in it." Gross!
We'll keep tabs on the moving bio blob - stay tuned!
